Facts:
- Black Iraqis are mostly descendants of Ethiopian, Sudanese(and some parts of East Africa) sailors or slaves who were brought to Iraq to work on sugar-cane and dates plantations.
- The trade in humans was first started by Arab traders as far back as the 9th century lasting over 1,000 years.
- Reports have circulated of black slaves in Iraq as recent as 2008.
